Ryugyong Hotel is My Cyberpunk Dream

Ryugyong Hotel

Kim Jong-Il, the fanatical leader of North Korea. That is what usually comes to mind when you hear North Korea. But there are other things such as the Ryugyong Hotel. It is a site that many people do not even realize exist outside of Korea. Resting in the capital of Pyongyang, there sleeps a giant. A husk of a great dream from time in memorial. It stands 1,083 ft tall and is the largest building in the country. But as with all things, including fantasy, they sometimes die before their birth.

Never finished, this mammoth shows the aspirations of a country that thought it could truly become something never seen before. It reminds me of many a cyberpunk megacity towers, lumbering over the cityscape as the citizens drone on below, elitist machines living the false dream of happiness.

Shattered dreams of a lost country.
