Food Stamp Challenge Is BS

Food Stamps

You have probably read about it, some snotty Congressmen have decided to live on $3 a day for 7 days to raise awareness of the shittiness of food stamps and how you can’t eat healthy. I say BS to their challenge. First off, look at what they are eating, these Congressmen bitch about “Oh I can’t eat organic”. I don’t eat organic cuz it’s fucking expensive and I have a job. And how much do Congress members make a year? On average it is $165,200. Talk about living it nice and upper middle class. These people who take this challenge are eating all wrong. They buy pre-processed food, complain of no Starbucks & soda. Really these items are not dietary necessities. Do you think poor people need Starbucks?

The problem is rather than discount shop at dollar stores, going to farmers markets, and buying things that need long cooking times like rice and raw beans they buy crap at overpriced supermarkets. I will applaude the only person who seems to have any idea on how to do this which is Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky. She bought raw veggies, fruit, chicken leg quarters, and bread. Although the chicken isn’t the healthiest it will provide calories essential protein and fats.

If anyone wonders what makes me an authority on eating on the cheap, I hiked 900 miles in Japan on the Shikoku 88 Pilgrimage with only $450 for expenditures. $80 went to a doctor when I got hurt and $176 for temple stamps. That left $194 for food, laundry, bathing, whatever and that was for 45 days. That is $4.31 a day, while hiking around 30 miles a day mind you and carrying a 40lbs pack on my back.

So Congressmen and woman, except Jan, I challenge you to a real ordeal. Go hike AND live on $4 a day and see how hard shit really is and then you might know what poor people truly feel like, because even though you ate like a welfare case for 7 days, you still had hot showers, a Lexus, and a nice house. Nothing is worse than waking up to rain blowing in on your face at 3am and realizing your cold, hungry, wet, dirty, and have only drudgery to look forward to.

Food Stamp Challenge is a cakewalk.
