成る程 (なるほど): Filed Under Stuff I Never Remember

Naruhodo

There are things people forget and then there are those things that the instant you finally remember it, you forget it again. For me, it is the term 成る程 (なるほど / naruhodo) that escapes my mind on a daily basis and for no good reason. It is not a long word or a difficult one. But each time I try and remember it, my brain goes and takes a crap in my skull. Maybe after writing about it I will remember it finally but I doubt.

成る程 (なるほど / naruhodo) is a very useful term, meaning I see; That’s right!; Indeed. It is one of those great conversation pieces that although only 1 word, they convey much about your sentiments on the topic but also showing you know more than just repeating そうですね (sou desu) that’s so or soemthing similar over and over. There are many great one worders, such as 別に (べつに/betsu ni) not particularly; nothing or 真逆 (まさか/masaka) well, I never!; you don’t say! or according to my 英和辞典 (えいわじてん/English-Japanese dictionary), says you!
